7 Ways How Kids Can Help to Save the Environment

We celebrate World Environment Day on 5th June each year, it is aimed to encourage awareness and protecting environment. Nature is beautiful, and we need to take care of it for ourselves and future generations. My blogs are usually based on development of kids, learning and parenting tips etc. This time I chose to write on how kids can help to save the environment because that too is the need of the hour.

Kids love what they see around, they love to see nature, greenery, trees, flora & fauna, and water bodies. They are interested in knowing how’s & Why’s, along with this we get an opportunity to tell them about how to save planet & environment with simple things of day-to-day life.

Let me take you around 7 simple ways how kids can help to save the environment in this quick to read blog –

1. Conserving Water – Save Water

No doubt children love playing with water, but they should never be appreciated to waste it. Few things can be easily taught like turning off the tap while brushing, not to fill water tub with excess of water but as per required only, not to waste drinking water by throwing it away.

2. Conserving Electricity – Save Electricity

As we off the lights before leaving the room or unplug the gadgets once they are fully charged, the same can be taught to grow up kids. Saving electricity is important, not only it saves your electric bill but also conserves the resources of nature that are required to generate electricity. Also, you can use energy saving light bulbs, and electrical appliances that use less power.

(Please Note – The toddlers etc. should not be encouraged to touch electric sockets & appliances, the tip is for the grown-ups. I strictly follow it for my 5 years, she is not allowed to touch them).

3. No Wastage of Food – Save Food

I don’t like wasting food at any cost, nor I let my kid do so, I am very much strict in my family about it when it comes to anyone. We should be thankful that we have food on our plates, people die of hunger and wasting food is not acceptable.

I cook as much as we can eat, and sometimes if it is a bit of access I freeze it or will share with my house help(Please note i m talking about fresh food, not any stale food). No food goes in a trash  in my home. This is the same my daughter follows, she takes as much as she can and if anything remains there, She will have it later or will ask me if I could eat along her.

4. Recycling – Re-Using

Recycling things, like plastic bottle, can be used by making use of them with creativity. Making bottle decor or planting herbs in them etc. newspapers for making crafts etc. Newspaper can be also used as a cleaning aid by mixing water and a splash of white vinegar to clean glass tables/window panes.

6. Not Using Vehicles For Shorter Distances

Try Inculcating the Habit of Walking in your kids for shorter distances, it makes good impact to lessen the air pollution that vehicles cause. You should do it yourself as well so that they can learn from you.

7. Planting plants/trees

Teach your kid to plant a leafy tree in your neighbourhood and also try to make natural decor of small real plants in your house, it reflects freshness and soothing environment.

I have also used old mugs at my home and planted sapling in them in my kitchen corner, my little one takes care of them and enjoys it.
