I remember I made my daughter to give interviews at 3 schools, and out of three, For two she was selected and one she wasn’t. Though for that one, we were more inclined too. She performed well, in fact best as compare to other 2 schools, but it did not happen. We moved with it and did not crib about it.

Let’s explore 5 Tips for Kids to Crack their First School Interviews –

1. Briefing About Interview

Prepare them weeks ahead of the interview, tell them and make them mentally prepared about it. Tell them how important it is, you can also let them visit school once before interview if possible. Let them become comfortable with the surroundings. For making a kid to do anything new or first-time mental preparation is essential.

For me, back in 2020 beginning (No COVID-19 Situation) we went to bring applicant form etc to school physically and made my daughter to show the school around. It helped me to make her give an idea, that if she cracks the interview, she can join the school which will be fun.

2. Brush the Basic Questions

Brush up their knowledge about basic question like introduction, name of colors, shapes, fruits etc. Make sure your child is familiarized with the interview environment. This can be done by conducting mock tests at home. Make sure they don’t feel shy or fearful for the interview.

In free time if not a certain specified, to do such activities repeatedly, mock tests with your kids is exciting & they learn a lot this way. I have followed it myself as well.

3. Teach Them Puzzles

Knowing verbally all is not suffice, as per my experience all schools ask children to solve puzzles or block games etc. This is essential for your kids to teach and expose them to certain stuff at home. Puzzle-solving is a great way to hone kids’ dexterity and problem-solving skills and makes interviewers getting a good impression.

Usually, they gave color blocks or animal blocks etc, very basic and simple to do, but until your kid has not done it before it will be difficult then. A rough idea is required.

4. Comfortable Dress

It is very important to dress your kid comfortably and decently. No fancy dresses & accessories are recommended.  Simple, neat, well ironed and comfortable dress is good to go! Also, it applies to parents, to be dressed professionally.

5. Maintain Greeting Etiquette

The basic and social etiquette should be taught to a kid as soon as you feel they have started to pick habits. Greeting people and being polite is important. Same goes for the interview day, remind them to greet interviewers with a smile. These are skills that matter in a school interview and are considered as valuable teaching for the rest of their childhood.
