World Cancer Day- Let’s Create A Cancer-Free World Together

World Cancer Day is celebrated globally on 4th February every year under which the entire world can unite and fight against global cancer. World Cancer Day is a global initiative that is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The overall aim is to raise awareness about cancer throughout the world, improve education, and take proper steps for catalyzing personal, collective, and government action. World Cancer Day is also aimed at bringing people together and creating a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and people have proper and equal access to life-saving cancer treatment and care.

Today World Cancer Day has grown into a positive movement for the masses. It is an initiative to unite people under one voice to face one of the most dangerous and deadliest challenges in human history. Every year hundreds of activities and events are conducted to make the event special. People gather together in schools, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, and places of worship. The motive is to send out a strong message and create awareness about the role everyone is playing in reducing the global impact of cancer.

The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day is, “Close the Care Gap”. The theme will help in raising awareness about the equity gap that can affect everyone, including high and middle-income countries.

As a responsible citizen of the country, you and your kids can also make your valuable contribution towards the World Cancer Day Celebrations. There are a range of activities that you can undertake to spread awareness about the importance of this day, and some of them have been mentioned below-

a) You can make proper use of social media and share your commitment towards the cause by sharing a post on your social media handle.

b) If possible, you can take your kids to the popular monuments and light a candle. If not a monument, then you can even light a candle on your balcony in the official colors of the logo and that is orange and yellow. 

c) Make donations to the cancer institute or a hospital.

d) Arrange for a virtual meet-up with the cancer patients and ensure that your children also join you in this virtual meet-up.

e) As a cautious citizen, keep spreading awareness about cancer.
